New Car and Engine Combo Gives McPherson Hope:                                    31-10-06

Despite a delayed start to the 2006/07 season, Scott McPherson has renewed confidence with a new car / engine combination that he hopes will take him all the way to the top in the East Coast Late Model Series – something that he narrowly missed out on last season.

McPherson’s charge is set to begin this Saturday night (November 4) when the third round of the Series is staged at Parramatta City Raceway, Sydney NSW.

“I’ve been kind of lucky as the opening round of the Series was rained out, so technically I’ve only lost one round,” said McPherson, who calls the Canberra suburb of North Terrace in the ACT home.

“For this season I have invested in new equipment, and basically everything is new except for my transporter.

“Last season was rather disappointing as I had built up a comfortable lead in the Series before it slipped out of my grasp due to a succession of engine woes.”

Defending East Coast Late Model Series champion, Queenslander Blair Granger, was the driver that came home last season with a wet sail to finish ahead of McPherson by a mere 10 points. So this season, despite the late start, McPherson and his Better Trailers Racing team are looking to make amends.

“Blair [Granger] has made a very strong start to the season, along with a lot of other drivers, so I’m going to have my work cut out for me,” he admitted.

For the remainder of the season McPherson anticipates a quick return to good form: hitting up the competition with consistent results on top of working on the setup of his new machinery.

“Although I have a lot of data, I’m going to be doing a little bit of trial and error in order to find a happy medium with the setup,” McPherson commented.

“Hopefully it won’t take too long and I can get up to the pointy end of the field starting this Saturday night.”

The equipment McPherson has onboard for this season is a former Scott Bloomquist (USA) Rayburn car and a brand new Graeme Silk Racing built 372ci Rodeck powerplant that is sure to hold him in good stead for a competitive season on the East Coast.
