McPherson Turns a Corner with NSW State Title Win:                                        9-3-07

It has been a difficult 2006/07 season for Scott McPherson since the debut of his # 7 Better Trailers supported Rayburn, but on Saturday night (March 3) at Nowra Speedway (South Coast) things took a turn for the better when he claimed the inaugural New South Wales (NSW) State Late Model Title.

After qualifying for the 20-lap feature race on pole position (after finishing his three heat races in second, fourth, and first), McPherson led from start to finish, defeating Nathan Disney and Darryl Grimson. However, McPherson’s victory almost wasn’t, as on the one and only yellow light (lap 17) he suffered the loss of the gear selector during the caution period, but luckily he managed to find the race gear and completed the final sprint to the chequered flag.

“We were lucky there towards the end of the feature race with the gear selector drama, and it was certainly touch and go there for a moment or two during the caution period,” explained a relieved McPherson.

“Heading into the Nowra Speedway meeting we chanced our hand with setup and it worked a treat as we took the win.”

McPherson is the first to admit that the 2006/07 season has been a tough one, as the Better Trailers Racing team has struggled to come to grips with their new car.

“So far this season we have struggled with our new car, and to be honest it was becoming quite frustrating,” admitted McPherson.

“Our team made many wholesale changes before heading to Nowra Speedway, which we have done numerous occasions this season, but this time our changes worked in our favour.”

With the persistence of his hard working Better Trailers Racing team, (made up of wife Janine, daughters Katie and Kristy, and team members Tony and Gaz), along with the advice from Allan Blake, and Graeme Silk Race Engines, success has been achieved.

“Definitely our result at Nowra Speedway has turned our season around for the better, and I’m confident of a solid finish to what has been a very frustrating season,” McPherson added.

Currently, McPherson is placed second behind leader Ken Croft in the East Coast Late Model Series point score.  The next appearance for the East Coast Series is set down for Parramatta City Raceway on Saturday, March 17.
