Current
New South Wales (NSW) State
Late Model Title holder Scott
McPherson added the Western
Australian State Title to his
list of achievements when he
headed a NSW 1, 2, 3 domination
in the event held recently at
the Northam Motorsport Park.
In
the process of taking the WA
State Title, McPherson created
a little bit of history by becoming
the first Late Model driver
to hold the NSW and WA State
Title at the one time, and it
was a piece of history that
he had to work mighty hard for,
especially considering that
he had to contend and battle
with defending champion and
Australian Champion at the time
Brad Blake.
“To
take out the Western Australian
State Title up amongst so many
talented drivers was a really
big buzz, and one that will
stay with me forever,” expressed
a jubilant McPherson.
“It
was a shame that Brad [Blake]
was taken out in an incident
with a few lapped cars, which
I was also involved mein, as
up until that point we had battled
wheel to wheel and gave each
other plenty of racing room.”
McPherson
made special comment to the
sportsmanship of Blake, who
assisted McPherson him with
his car during the red light
stoppage that ultimately took
Blake out of the event.
“I
couldn’t believe it when Brad
[Blake] ran over to my car without
hesitation and started helping
repair the car, and it just
goes to show how much of true
sportsman he is, especially
when you consider he had just
been taken out of the race,”
he commented.

“Without
his assistance I don’t think
I would have been able to make
the restart, and I’d like to
thank Brad and everyone else
that assisted me in getting
me back out on the track.”
The
following weekend, for the Australian
Late Model Nationals, at the
Perth Motorplex, McPherson and
his Better Trailers Racing team
headed into the event very feeling
confident and were aiming for
a Top 5 result, but they were
dogged by engine gremlins and
therefore finished the feature
race in a disappointing 10th
place.
“Coming
off the high of winning the
WA State Title the weekend before
I was aiming for a Top 5 finish,
but with engine troubles we
struggled and that was a really
disappointing for everyone,”
McPherson explained.
“We
made a number of repairs to
the engine for the final night,
but they didn’t work and we
continued to be off the pace
and although we finished the
feature race, it certainly wasn’t
where we wanted to be.”
McPherson
said a big thanks to everyone
from Western Australia, in particular
Phil Richards, his father Peter
and crew, and Rob McGregor
and Ian Groves, for all their
support during his two week
WA trip and also his sponsors:
Better Trailers, and Graham
Silk Race Engines, and the NDRA.
McPherson would
also like to thank Jason Oldfield
and Ben Ludlow for parts lent
for the feature race at the
Perth Motorplex Kwinana. McPherson
would not have been able to
finish both meetings without
the assistance of his cCrew
cChief, Tony and his crew that
is made up of Damien, daughters
Katie and Kristy, and wife Janine.?
The
latest next round of the East
Coast Late Model Series at Tyrepower
Parramatta City Raceway on Saturday
night, February 9 is the next
scheduled appearance for McPherson.
