Fighting Fourth for McPherson at TPCR                                                      17-10-05

Being unable to start his second heat has cost Metalcorp Steel Racing team driver Scott McPherson dearly last Saturday night (October 15) at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) during the second round of the East Coast Late Model series.

Fyshwick (ACT) based McPherson finished the 12-lap feature race in a hard charging fourth place after starting from the tail of the field. However, things could have been a lot different had it not been for a fuel system issue that saw McPherson fail to start the second heat after finishing a strong second placing in the opening heat of the night.

“The night started off well by finishing second in the opening heat, and then while making adjustments for the second heat we discovered a fuel leak, which saw me unable to start the second heat,” explained McPherson.

Thanks generosity of fellow rival Lyle Dicker, who was able to lend him his spare fitting for the fuel system, McPherson and his # 7 Metalcorp Steel / Better Trailers supported Pontiac GP was able to take his place in the feature race lineup.

“I knew I'd be up against it starting from the tail of the field with the fast guys on the night off the front,” said McPherson. “The opening laps saw me held up in traffic, which allowed the front runners to get a break. Although I was happy with the speed of my car, the gap the leaders had pulled on the field was too great and in the end fourth place was where I ended up.”

Despite missing the second heat, McPherson finished the night fourth overall with a total of 48 points.

This Saturday night (October 22) McPherson and his team will make the trek up to Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) in Queensland for round three of the East Coast Late Model series. 43-year-old McPherson has visited the BIS venue on two previous occasions and feels quite confident he can continue his solid start to season 2005/06.

“I'm heading up to Brisbane with a lot of confidence, one area that I'm looking forward to is running with the wall and that is something I am quite comfortable with,” stated McPherson. “I hope to use my experience competing with the wall to my advantage by putting in a strong showing and continue to amass points in the series.”
