Win # 2 for McPherson in Season 2005/06                                                   24-10-05

The long drive for the Metalcorp Steel Racing team from Canberra up to Brisbane International Speedway was rewarded after team driver, Scott McPherson, took out round three of the East Coast Late Model series on Saturday night (October 22).

Having travelled over 1000km (one way) McPherson, who was one of the few drivers in the field to have actually experienced the Brisbane International Speedway track, fought off numerous challenges from local driver Blair Granger during the night and take out the 10-lap feature race. However, a spin towards the latter stages of the feature race by leader at the time Granger nearly took out both drivers.

“Yeah, it sure was a close and it could've easily ended in tears for the both of us, but thankfully I was able to jump on the brakes and avoid a collision as he (Blair) came across in front of me,” recalled McPherson. “Blair and I battled it out all night and in the end I was happy to away with the win as Blair drove well all night and kept me very honest.”

McPherson continued on by saying that he was glad that the BIS promoter John Kelly was pleased with the show that the East Coast Late Model Association (ELMA) put on for the crowd, despite their limited car numbers.

“That was by the far the biggest win of the night, that we proved to the promoter (John Kelly) that we're worthy of putting on a show for the crowd, and that's what it's all about,” stated McPherson. “It's going to be a lot of fun when we return on November 12 with stronger numbers, which will generate more exciting racing.”

Having not competed at the BIS venue in nearly three years, McPherson really enjoyed the track and was glad that it (the track) maintained its racy surface throughout the night.

“Early in the night we struggled a little bit with setup as we were flying blind and just went out with a base setup,” explained McPherson. “As the night progressed we made a few adjustments to suit the track and in the end they were the correct ones. I was able to get around there (the track) without much drama, despite grazing the wall earlier in the night that left a battle scar on my car on the right hand rear panel.”

During the four qualifying heat races McPherson recorded two wins and two seconds, and enjoyed the competition that Granger dished out.

The Metalcorp Steel Racing team will now take a weekend off before returning for the fourth round of the East Coast Late Model series at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway on Saturday, November 5.
