Handy Series Buffer Built after Podium Finish in Brisbane:                   15-11-05

Canberra's Scott McPherson has built up a handy point's gap on his nearest rival after last Saturday night (November 12) placing second to Blair Granger in the fifth round of the East Coast Late Model series at Brisbane Intentional Speedway.

This podium finish, his second of the series, now sees McPherson hold a 63 point lead over second placed Granger in the series point standings.

McPherson, steering his # 7 Metalcorp Steel Pontiac GP, was content with his second placing after starting the 15-lap feature race from outside the second row. With the top four point scorers after the three heat races inverted McPherson, the highest point scorer, started out of position four.

Battling with slick track conditions, McPherson held down third place for most of the race distance before a pass on Tim Watts close to the finish saw him snare second place.

“It wasn't easy out there as the slick track conditions were very hard to get a hold off as there wasn't much grip,” recalled McPherson. “Throughout the feature race it was pretty much follow the leader as when you tried the high line there was no grip up there, so plugging away on the pole line was all you could do. I was following Tim (Watts) and a late pass saw me move into second.”

Consistency has been the key for McPherson despite a number of small dramas that have crept in and the goal now is to just to maintain his series lead with similar performances.

“We our just aiming to keep finishing each race as high as we can, and not do anything silly that may jeopardise our lead in the series,” stated McPherson. “Although we have had a few dramas this season, I have been happy with my car, it's just picking the setups for the track conditions in order to perform at the strongest possible level, and that is something we are getting a better grip of.”

In a fortnights time (Saturday, November 26) McPherson and his Metalcorp Steel Racing team will return to action at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway for the sixth round of the East Coast Late Model Series.
