McPherson and Grimson Primed for Aussie Title Battle                                   13-1-06

The East Coast Late Model Association (ELMA) is proud to announce that two of their leading drivers, Scott McPherson and Darryl Grimson, will contest the fifth running of the Australian Late Model Nationals at Kwinana's Quit Motorplex on Saturday - January 21.

Both McPherson and Grimson have been in strong form so far in season 2005/06 and they won't be traveling across the Nullabor just to make up the numbers. The goals for this experienced pair are to finish well inside the top 10 of the title final.

Currently, McPherson holds a strong lead in the East Coast Late Model series, while Grimson has captured two feature race wins in his first season aboard the United Realty - Liverpool sponsored owned # 62 Joe Borg owned Monte Carlo.

“I am certainly not coming over to run last,” remarked Grimson. “I have never competed over in the West Coast, but it is certainly something that I am looking forward to. The competition over there seems to be very tough and if I can finish somewhere in the top 5 of the title final I'd be more than happy.”

While McPherson is looking to make amends after last years disappointment driving his Metalcorp Steel / Better Trailers supported # 7 Chev 410ci powered Pontiac GP.

“My luck certainly wasn't with me at last years after qualifying well, only to get taken out on the opening lap by an over zealous driver,” recalled McPherson. “The goal for this year is to get through my qualifying heats in one piece and register a top 10 finish in the final.”

Experience around the Quit Motorplex venue will be with McPherson, while Grimson will be flying blind into the event after having never competed there previously.

“I have been informed that the Motorplex provides awesome Late Model racing, but other than that I can only go by what I've seen on television,” confessed Grimson. “Our team will go there with a base setup and work on it during the heats, and with any luck we will have it right by the time the final comes around.”

Leading up to the title event Grimson hasn't had the best of preparations and recent days have been spent rebuilding his 415 cubic inch Chev engine after it struggled during the Fireball Derby and King of Thunder events earlier this month.

Without the strong support of Brian `Bear' Chalmers from BCM Motorsports Marketing, Gavin Migro (Quit Motorplex) and Super Sedan racer Keith Sims (Sims Group) this trip would not have been at all possible.

“Bear, Gavin and Keith have been very supportive and huge thanks must go out to them for all their efforts in making this trip a reality,” commented a grateful McPherson. “Every one of those guys have rallied together to ensure that there will be cars representing the East Coast at this years Australian Title and our hats go off to them.”
